Eli Manning is 19th in pass yards per game, 46th in passer rating, and 99th in yards per attempt.

If you play long enough, you can put up some impressive numbers.

Nice numbers for sure, b2b. Question, have you actually seen the Giants play many games this year? Just curious, because if you have, you would know Eli has little to no time to throw the ball most of the time. His O line pass protection has been the worst I've seen by any O line in years. Losing OBJ and Shepard (many weeks) has giving him one real receiving option in ROOKIE TE, Evan Engram. They can't run the ball, so every defense just plays the pass. I'm surprised his numbers aren't worse actually. Has Eli lost some of his ability? I really don't know, because it's very, very hard to tell with what he's working with. I'm not sure Ben could do much better in that situation. Although, Ben would be on IR by now - knowing the way he plays. Eli has always had the smarts (or lack of guts) to get rid of the ball and not take the hit...thus his streak. Imaging what the Steelers could have accomplished if Ben had started/played every single game of his career though.

Ben won XLIII behind the worst offensive line in Super Bowl history, and it isn't even close. Just saying.

You obviously haven't seen the Giants O line play very much this year... Ben would be dead by now.

To be clear, I'm not saying Eli is better than Ben in any way. Just saying he's much better than some here are trying to portray.

I live in NY and have seen the eli play often. I think he's over rated. I also don't think he's average, either. Not as smart as his brother, but more physically talented. This season has been a clusterfuck for them.

Take a look down the entire offensive roster the Steelers fielded in XLIII. The Giants of this year are deeper and more talented at RB, possibly TE, and likely OL. Justin Hartwig was our OL savior that SB year. Justin Hartwig. Let that sink in. The Steelers had more healthy talent at WR. That's about it.

Eli is no Ben but hes not close to as bad as being portrayed here by some, Eli has absolute zero to play with in NY right now, no wrs, no running game and a talented TE with a serious case of the dropsies.

Darnell Stapleton. Carey Davis. Mewelde Moore. Najeh Davenport. Chris Kemoatu. Gary Russell. Trai Essex. All starters or significant contributors.

Mix in some Big Ben and a pretty darn good defense (though only about as expensive, salary cap percentage-wise, as the 2017 NYG), and you get? Super Bowl Champions.

Edit: Just typing that list made me throw up in my mouth a little.

I'm giving him a pass for this year-- they have myriad problems and had no post-OBJ plan. I just mean that, overall, his numbers are accumulation from playing on a mediocre/bad team most of his career. His Super Bowl runs and performances are by far the best part of his resumé.

Honest to God, RS, I know we all love Eli, he's a standup guy, model citizen, Giants front office are assholes, blah, blah, blah.

But hell....playoffs are soon upon us, and the headlines of the NFL Network shows, talk shows, etc. center on the benching of a QB of a 2-9 team.

Sounds like you should be more selective about the threads you frequent, Ice.

Swiss: too much coverage about Eli, who cares.

Ice: but Swiss you started a thread about something you're saying people are talking too much about

Swiss: Ice you don't have to read my threads

Me: Swiss, if you don't like all the talk about Eli, then switch the channel.

Given your advice to posters to avoid threads started by you that you do not like, there is not a small amount of irony in you complaining about too much attention to Eli's benching. No one is forcing you to pay attention to it.

Unless I am mistaken, which I often am, that is Ice's point?

swiss may enjoy a myriad of sports talk shows on his commute like me. Those shows have been dominated by Eli news for 2 days. ESPN rsdio, NFL radio, mad dog sports, fox sports. Just dominated. I guess I could just listen to music. But I like my sports talk son.

That's exactly right. The apt comparison would be if every OP on this forum was on Eli. The reader is able to scan this forum, choose to read any of a variety of topics. Not so with the sports talk shows, NFLN Total Access etc., ....all Eli all the time.

Professor needs to enroll in Honors Mumbo-Jumbo.

I don't think so, Swiss. RS does not give the advice you do to ignore what does not interest you, so he commits no gross irony here. You on the other hand are choosing to complain about something you could easily choose to ignore. Simple and obvious.

Edit: I will also add that I give no fucks about this. At all. I was attempting to articulate what I took to be the point of Ice's response to you.

Gotta ask, Lit...is gross irony a technical component of the philosopher's lexicon, similar to material weakness for an auditor, or is it your independent assessment of my indictment of Ice's post.

You're right that I could choose to ignore, go to music or to NPR, but the frustration is in knowing that there is so much football material, interesting to me, that could be discussed, but it's nowhere to be found. Not so when it comes to the choosing of threads on this esteemed website. One fairly consistently has choices ranging from technical articles about two-high safeties, to extraneous bullshit, such as best pizza in Pittsburgh or NYC.

My usage of irony is actually incorrect, too, but I was trying to avoid the appellation that better fits, under and beneath judgment.

But nevermind my silly mumbo jumbo, when so many fine threads present themselves. And certainly, you, Swiss, are a chooser of fine things and one who actively avoids ugly and bad and silly things.

I fucking LOVE Eli even though I've only seen two Giants games in their entirety since he was drafted.

You know which two.

The rest of his career is meaningless to me. Doing what we never did against the Cowboys of the 21st century...you can't hate the Pats and NOT love Eli. He bested the despised GOAT TWICE when it mattered most.

They’re gonna ‘evaluate’ all positions including QB? What the fuck for? Geno Smith? You really need to evaluate him? That other kid? I call bullshit.

Eli’s started 200+ straight games. Let him leave with a little dignity. Besides, he’s the least of their problems. They should be ‘evaluating’ Jerry Reese and be benching his sorry ass.

At the very least, if you’re looking to move on from Eli, let him finish the season and then do it.

Bingo

The problem with that team is injuries, shitty coaching and lack of talent
Not manning
This is a last ditch move to save jobs and IMHO very indicative of Why Mcadoo is a poor coach whp should be fired

Tears is too much but manning deserves a little dignity for what he has done with that team ... when they had a good coach

Mcadoo is kotite bad

Tha and they likely decided to suck for draft picks
