An interesting story has been brewing in New York. I have been keeping tabs on the Knicks all year.
Last night in the 4th quarter fans at Madison Square Garden were chanting Por-zin-gis... Por-zin-gis. Amazing stuff considering the boos when he was drafted.
It has been impressive that right out of the gate Porzingis contributed to his team. He showed from the get go he was not a bust.
I have been surprised how comfortable he looks guarding point guards. I have been surprised at how comfortable he looks mixing it up inside.
This kid seems very likeable and has some charisma. It appears to be easy for his teammates to pull for him.
Five assists last night from Carmelo. He seems to have bought in to both Porzingis and what Jackson/Fisher want from him (Carmelo). It appears Carmelo's days of black hole ball stopper might (finally) be behind him.
Porzingis has shown a slick post up move. If he is ever going to be a dominant player, most likely his bread and butter is going to come from a post game of some stripe.
One negative... Porzingis needs to improve his shooting efficiency. He has not shot the ball well enough overall. A lot of that is due to shooting 34 3's at .265%.
Last night though he was a beast...
29 PTS 11 REB 10-17 FGA-M including 2-2 from 3 in 31 minutes.
... making him the youngest Knick ever to have a 25/10 game. Pretty amazing stuff in only his 12th game.
