Bears bolster offensive line by signing Mike Adams
Posted by Josh Alper on August 10, 2016, 1:46 PM EDT

The Bears signed Nate Chandler to improve their offensive line depth earlier this offseason, but the former Panther opted to retire from the NFL in July.

They’ll turn to former Steelers tackle Mike Adams instead. The Bears announced Wednesday that they have signed Adams and waived offensive lineman Nick Becton.

Adams was released by the Steelers in May, ending a run in Pittsburgh that started when the team made him a second-round pick in the 2012 draft. Adams played in 41 games and started 20 over his first three years, but missed all of last season with a back injury.

The Bears currently have Charles Leno as the starter at left tackle and Bobby Massie on the right side of the line. Adams joins Garry Williams as backup options with experience as starters earlier in their careers.

After watching him since 2012, I’m not sure you can say Mike Adams “bolsters” an OLine, or does anything else for a team.

He’s a roster spot… THATS ALL

He fills a spot until he too retires or get’s placed on IR.

The Bears are really playing with fire with that OL. I get it that two offseason retirements and Grasu’s injury could not have been predicted but if they lose Kyle Long for any length of time they are in deep trouble because none of their other starters is even close to that caliber and depth behind them is even worse.

He’ll probably perform as long as they don’t give him much guaranteed money up-front. If they sign him to an incentive-laden contract he will actually exert some effort. Otherwise, he’ll be the same failure he was with the Steelers.

Not sure I would count on Mike Adams to bolster anything
