At PNC Park
Game time: 7:05PM ET
Probable starters:
LAD: Alex Wood (14-1, 2.30 ERA)
PIT: Gerrit Cole (10-8, 4.04 ERA)

Quote:
The Pirates will have a chance to see how they stack up against the best team in baseball when they begin a four-game series vs. the Dodgers on Monday at PNC Park. Los Angeles enters with an 87-35 record after having its six-game win streak snapped on Sunday in Detroit.

Alex Wood, who's 14-1 with a 2.30 ERA in a career season, will get the start for Los Angeles. He will face off against right-hander Gerrit Cole, who has been up and down this year, bringing a 10-8 record and a 4.04 ERA into the matchup.

While the Dodgers have been without Clayton Kershaw for a month, the team hasn't slowed its onslaught against Major League Baseball. With the recent addition of Curtis Granderson, the Dodgers have increased their outfield depth and hope to finish their seven-game road trip strong before heading home for three games against the Brewers.

Things to know about this game

• The Dodgers are 3-0 against the Pirates this season, outscoring them, 21-6. It is the first time in the last four seasons that Los Angeles has gotten the better of Pittsburgh, having gone a combined 5-15 against the Bucs prior to 2017.

• Wood has done a good job of limiting damage against the Pirates, holding them to a .227 batting average while posting a 2.61 ERA in seven career appearances (six starts). Only Andrew McCutchen has had moderate success in limited at-bats, going 4-for-16 with one home run against Wood.

• The Pirates' offense has hit its stride of late, as they've scored at least six runs in each of their last five games. It all starts at the top, where Starling Marte appears to have rediscovered his timing more than a month after his return from an 80-game suspension. Marte will enter Monday with six straight multihit games under his belt.

Our "ace" gave up his 27th HR of the season with that grand slam.

Laughable.
