Caught the premiere last night.

Let me say it's a good thing I can get access to British Netflix and so do not have to shell out for CBS All Access because the first episode did nothing to make me shell out the money for it.

I wouldn't say it was bad, but it was most definitely "meh".

Since I can watch the next couple of episodes for free, I will do so to see if it gets any better, but its quality so far definitely reflects its troubled production history.

Oh- and I can see why CBS/Paramount went out of its way to squelch the fan production group Axanar Productions.

Their effort at a fan movie (can watch the teaser movie below) was shaping up to be far better than what CBS has laid out so far.

I only saw the first half hour but thought it was kind of lame. I'll watch it later but I'm not happy that I have to shell out if I want to see it on subscription.

One other thing-why do they have to change the Klingons physical makeup nearly every offshoot of the original?

Hulu, netflix, and other streaming services have set the precedent. Didn't Hulu just win an Emmy for best original something? Pay per view subscriptions will become the norm. With advertisements. And you won't be able to re-watch. That'll be another price point. ;)

There's confusion over what timeline this is- by all appearances it's the altered timeline of the new movies, but there's been conflicting reports from the production staff on that.

I thought it was interesting. Can't say I'm compelled to continue tuning in, but I may go check out Ep.2 online.

I was struck a bit by the fact the two leads are women. Seems a bit forced, to me. Although the Commander's superior is a man.

You're basically trying to build a sci-fi story around two women - I'm taking the under on "success".

The rest of the season is on a different ship and will have a male captain and the redemption of the 2nd officers career. from what I gathered on the "coming this season" promo at the end of episode 2.

The cgi is really top notch though the initial story was just alright.

That's much more encouraging.

But, practically speaking, this show has NO CHANCE on CBS.

That was maybe my real issue. It was a pretty interesting start and well done (even if we hadn't seen the same set-up in at least a dozen different movies)....then I was like "are you kidding me, Klingons AGAIN...that's where you go with this?!?!"
