Does anyone have the details on why James Harrison isn't getting playing time?

Have I missed something on the internet explaining or talking about this?

I saw he tweeted social media where he was sitting on his helmet and cracked a joke making a reference about getting prepped for game time reps or something but when he didn't play at all in the Ravens game it got me thinking.

It's weird and confusing - he didn't even get a helmet for the Raven's game. I'm hoping that Tomlin is throwing the young guys into the fire to grow them up for later in the year. But, Tomlin needs to be careful about losing games due to this philosophy (if that is it)(see Chicago game)

I think the plan going into the season was similar to last year in which they were to give the majority of the early season snaps to Jervis. Giving him one last stretch of games to prove his worth, while keeping James fresh for the second half.
Jervis, as most already knew, did not have it.
James got alot of the snaps down the stretch.

I think same plan for 2017.
Preserve James, while seeing what the new guy had.
Except it was evident early on in pre-season, that Watt had IT.
First two games I think James saw a combined 7 snaps?

Last week he caught the bug that hit Villy and then Bryant.
Combined with Watt back in the line-up.............with Chick and Moats as 2 OLB back-ups.
Don't think we have the luxury of giving 5 OLB's a helmet.

I made a comment during pre-season, that I thought James has gotten entirely too big.
You stick a # 99 or 98 on him and he will look like a NT.
Maybe too big and a loss of quickness. Not to mention closing in on 40.
Was still a better option vs. Chicago than Chick....after it was evident they were intent on running it.

I think Watt has all the intangibles to be a special player.
Will get to the QB. Will chase down back side run plays.
I said in pre-season he has the knack to bat down passes.................and would bat down at least 10 passes this year.
He will tip up one for a pick sometime this year.

That being said.
James is one of my favorite all-time Steelers.
Keep him fresh. But need to start getting him 10-12-15 snaps starting around mid season.
And start getting him in the game for situational pass rushing plays.

Watt, Cam, Tuit, Dupree and James all on the field in 3rd and long could be deadly with all lined up on the line...........with versatility of sending them all or for Watt or Dupree to drop into coverage.
Substitute Hargrave in for Cam or Tuit as a nice third down rotation.

Also, James and Watt have the versatility to rush from either side and up the middle.

It was a mistake v Bears but v Ravens? Steelers had Watt and Tuitt back and love Deebo but he ain't running down on kick off anytime soon. I agree with others: break glass when it gets colder. A fresh Deebo will be a big boost down the stretch, especially when teams have to run the football more.

I believe it's been stated that the mighty Chickillo has made it impossible for James to get on the field.

I've got no problem transitioning to Watt over Harrison-- playing Chickillo over Deebo is weird

Yes, Chickillo was getting his ass kicked against Chicago. The team was desperate for someone who could set an edge against the run. Wasn't James quoted that he could set the edge at 60 years old?

I believe there is a plan for James Harrison. I believe it is a bad one. Coaches are morons.

Some of that decision is in the hands of the Steelers worst position coach... which leaves it up for debate.
