Sorry but i have not seen Bud stepping up into the leadership role . I not sure he be around here past his first contract.

Not the Steelers way..... I bet he gets a lucrative 2nd deal

I don't see that happening unless there is a huge improvement next year. I can't see them picking up the 5th year option. They'll probably allow him to play out the string ala Jones to see what happens. Watt's rookie year has already exceeded Bud's best career season.

We will see. My guess is they like Dupree and will extend him.

I would extend Bud. He fits what they do and he’s been pretty good at it.

If not for his slow motion read react Dupree is the fit at LOLB. He can drop into coverage, he can pass rush but what infuriates me is his run stopping (lack of). Dude has problems setting the edge and making the tackle. Gets stuck on blocks too long washes out of the play far too easily and stands motionless as plays unfold going by him. Not sure what that is even about but it enrages me.

Does he not lead the Steelers in TFL?

EDIT: his 12 is second to Heyward's 16

He has the same number of TFL as Danielle Hunter, for instance, and only 1 fewer sack than Hunter

Passes Defended.

Not a sole indicator of a defensive backs abilities.
A guy that gets targeted alot will / may have more than others, good or bad.
But.

Sean Davis - 11 & 3 INT
Mike Hilton - 8 & 2 INT
Joe Haden - 8 & 1 INT
Artie Burns - 14 & 1 INT
Ryan Shazier - 14 & 3 INT
Vince Williams- 2 & 1 INT
TJ Watt - 9 & 1 INT
Sensabaugh - 4 & 1 INT
Willie Gay - 4 & 1 INT
Robert Golden- 3 & 1 INT
JJ Wilcox - 2 & 1 INT
Bud Dupree - 0 & 0 INT
Mike Mitchell - 0 & 0

There really is no defending Dupree at this point. It's not even the sacks. It's the fact he isn't coming close. He's not a disruptive force in any way shape or form. He can get the occasional hustle sack or a sack on an inside stunt when the OL messes up the pick up. But, he's not beating the guy across from him.

His play recognition as others have said is painfully slow. Go back and watch the Baltimore film if you need more proof. In that game, he is always a second too late in reading the run and diagnosing the play. But, beyond that he lacks burst off the snap, has terrible bend around the edge, and he might as well have T-Rex arms because he doesn't use them at all.

I hope I'm dead wrong. I hope he explodes in the playoffs. But, there is no evidence at all of that happening anytime soon.

He has damn near the same stats as Danielle Hunter... isn't Hunter considered a hot young edge player? How is he accumulating the TFL & sacks, especially while spending a lot of time in coverage? Sheer luck?

I may be basing an opinion on a limited sample set, but the highlights I've seen opponents have him double teamed, chip shotted, and ran the other way. I don't think he's as bad as people think, but he could use some hand work and some moves other than a bull rush.

While Bud doesn't have the sack numbers others do, his pass rush arc usually causes the QB to step up in the pocket a few steps. Which in turn, puts him that much closer to the DL players that are getting those sacks. It's all part of the hoedown....sometimes you do-si-do, sometimes you promenade. :)
