The Steelers have hired Tom Bradley as their new secondary coach. Bradley most recently had been the defensive coordinator at UCLA. Longtime assistant at Penn State before that.

After almost 40 years in the college ranks, Tom Bradley is making his way to the NFL. The former Penn State and UCLA defensive coordinator is joining the Steelers as their secondary coach, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Carnell Lake announced Wednesday he would not return to the Steelers after seven seasons as the team’s defensive backs coach.

Bradley took a low-level coaching position on Penn State’s staff in 1979 after finishing a four-year playing career the previous season. He coached at his alma mater until 2011, including the last 12 as defensive coordinator.

He also served as interim head coach in 2011 when the school fired Joe Paterno.

After resigning from Penn State, Bradley spent two years working at CBS as a football analyst before West Virginia hired him to coach the defensive line in 2014. Bradley was UCLA’s defensive coordinator the past three seasons.

Can he also take over the defensive calls from Butler while he's at it?

Didn't he have a big hand in designing that creative defense to shut down Miami in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl? (I know Sandusky was DC but I thought Bradley was in on that too.)

I don’t. Another old guy with old football ideas. This was the opportunity to bring in someone young, fresh and exciting.
Nope...we do what we do.

Doug Pederson is 50.

Frank Reich is 56.

Jim Schwartz is 51.

Younger is not always better.

Bradley is 62. This will be more of the same. Count on it...
Steelers don’t hire football coaches that might rock the boat. They want guys to fall in line. We keep referring to the Steelers as stale. Do you think Tom Bradley freshens them up?

Scrap is a no nonsense kind of person. He won't put up with the bullshit that ails this team unless he has really mellowed in the past 6-7 years.

Not crazy about this but it's a done deal. UCLA defense was not lighting it up under him.

Wade Phillips is fucking 70. It's not age. Especially when it comes to defense. It's not like an OC.

It’s not the age as much as the old “style”. Most old football coaches are set in their ways.
We’ll see...

I don't care if dude is 90. As long as he brings in some new aged innovative and exciting "with current NFL thinking" I'm all for it.
That said, at first Glance it looks Stale and Predictable.... just like they've been for decade and a half. God forbid they land someone looking to cease the moment at this level. Not someone that's been in the biz 40+ years.... We need young creative, critical thinkers since the Steelers are already super challenged in that department. Staff is currently, old slow and potted plant style the standard is the standard, bullshit. I agree with Rum. Out with the "old stale we do what we do mentality" in with the new age innovative, creative, exciting, win producing and dynasty building mentality.

Bradley is a teacher...our guys need to be taught.

The guys below the coordinators don’t have to be super-genius idea men.

They have to make sure the players under their charge are prepared come game day.

I Love this. Even if not true this has to resonate with other teams. Something that likely has been done before. I just wonder if the Steelers staff would have thought along these same lines or would it have been, "we do what we do" til the bitter defeating end? Check it...

Quote:
“I believe our whole walk-through was just a complete fake walk-through,” Lovato said. “We did it at the stadium. There were certain people walking around. . . . I believe I overheard someone say a lot of the plays we were running weren’t even in the playbook for the Super Bowl.” But why not take advantage of the opportunity to practice the actual plays in the stadium where the game was going to be played, one day beforehand? “We already had our game plan set all week for the last two weeks,” Lovato said. “We had two weeks to prepare for that game. A measly walk-through the day before the game, we weren’t going to show anything to anyone, especially being at the stadium.” https://sports.yahoo.com/philadelphia-e ... 40669.html
In the least it instills doubt to the cheaters in the sport. Is that what they'll see on Sunday? Or not?

It hadn't occurred to me. I have it set up to block sigs, but I can see how it might be a problem. I guess I should fix it.

EDIT : Is that any better?

Isn't that the game where my homie Pete Giftopolous from HAMILTON ONTARIO CANADA made the last minute game saving interception off of Vinnie Testaverde?? I schooled Pete in the school yard plenty of times. Good times.

"We were a team that couldn't be intimidated, and that's what Miami liked to do to other players," linebacker Pete Giftopoulos later observed. "How are you going to intimidate a bunch of steel-town kids from Pittsburgh, Ohio, Pennsylvania? You just can't do that." [5]

Can he also take over the defensive calls from Butler while he's at it?

Didn't he have a big hand in designing that creative defense to shut down Miami in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl? (I know Sandusky was DC but I thought Bradley was in on that too.)

I was there.

There were benefits to being in the Blue Band after all...

THAT must have been a trip. Can't imagine the energy in that stadium and being on the winning side. WOW

One of five Penn State picks in that game. Vinnie said it hindered his development as a pro for years afterward. I used that game to heckle Vinny before Sunday Nighter vs. Ravens in '97. "Hey Vinnie, Fiesta Bowl, Vinnie, Fiesta Bowl, Fiesta Bowl," I yelled, as he exited the bus outside the bowels of Three Rivers Stadium. Let the record show that Vinnie threw picks in all of Ravens first three possessions before being pulled from the game.

Place was rocking. Penn State fans dominated the crowd...I’d estimate 2/3 to 3/4 of the crowd was Lions’ fans.
