Yeah, the funny thing about Pierre-Louis is that he has been in some really tough spots. In Seattle with KJ Wright and Bobby Wagner, how do you get on the field? He is traded to KC and they have an equally crowded LBer crew of Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, etc.

I have been really intrigued by Louis, read up on him, he seems to be a real hard worker, has a work ethic, nobody seems to doubt that, but the off the field circumstances are the issue.

But maybe if the Steelers did their due diligence on him, maybe if he realizes what a great, fresh start he could get by signing with us, man, it might be a great signing. And the troubles that he has, the circumstances make it possible for us to sign him. If he didn't have those he would probably have cashed in on a vey nice payday.

I know one thing, he was a 4th rounder, but if he were in this draft, his combine performance would have been near or at the top for ILBs. He might be a 2nd rounder in this draft class.

This will influence Boz when he goes to the negotiating table....

Falcons gave kicker Matt Bryant a three-year, $10.5 million deal that includes a $2 million signing bonus and incentives that could boost total deal to $12 million, per
source.https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status ... 9793596416

Boz's numbers are better than this kicker too. Just in 2017 Boz was 35 of 38 FG's with a long of 53 @ Heinz field, 37 of 39 XP's. Boz has an overall 89.5% since entering the league in 2015. Bryant's percentage is 87.2%. Boz is only 26 where Bryant is 40 something. Pay the man!

Athletically, I certainly liked what I saw from Louis, I just assumed he was off the table for the Steelers, so I stopped looking. Davis was the next best FA option when looking at the complete picture (cost, run/coverage, age, etc..). I still think they need to draft a stud ILB, even after they sign someone.

Steelafan77,

I think the Justin Tucker and Dan Bailey contracts are what Boz and his agent are looking at, those two have $17 and $22.5 Million contracts.

Tucker was something like 4 years, $17 million with $6 million signing bonus and the first two years of his salary guaranteed for a total of $10 million in guarantees.

Bailey signed a 7 year $22.5 million contract, with a $4 million signing bonus and $6.6 million guaranteed.

I see them putting the 2nd round tender on him and then finally giving him that new contract sometime in the middle of August. My guess? 4 years, $18 million, with a $6 million signing bonus and then year 2 of the deal he will have a $3-4 million roster bonus. That is usually what they have been doing in year 2 of their contracts lately, and then of course they will restructure that roster bonus to free up money for 2019, just as they have done with Cam Heyward, David Decastro, Stephon Tuitt, Antonio Brown, etc.

You're probably right, but an R2 tender is pretty risky. I would never pull that trigger, but there's only 7-8 good kickers in the league and someone who has been burned might not hestitate.

I know Tucker only got the R2 tender, but that was before they moved the XP back and before he really started nailing long game-winners.

Cap really isn't the issue, as the R1 tender is $1M more and probably still a little less than a L-T deal might average. I hope to contend for a SB then I'm not fucking around with my kicker over $1M.

I don't see the risk with the 2nd round tender, the Steelers still can match any offer. You look at Gano getting paid by Carolina today, 4 years $17 million, my estimate of 4 years $18 million is probably not too far off. The top of the mountain in terms of paying elite place kickers is in that $17 million area, about an average of $4.25 million a season, Bailey got $22.5 million yeah, but that has a lower $3 million average as it was spread out over 7 years.

I can't see a team offering more than the Steelers would match and I can't see Boz wanting to leave a Super Bowl contender.

A name to watch in coming days: Lions’ TE Eric Ebron, whose name surfaced in trade discussions at last weekend’s combine, per league source. Lions were listening.https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status ... 0731118592
Wonder what they're asking? Is Ebron worth trading for? Could save a draft pick.

Ebron has been a constant disappoint in his career, I wouldn't give up more than one of our 7th round picks and I'm not even sure I would do that.

Honey Badger alert - any takers if available?

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu says the team has asked him to take a pay cut.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports it would be a "large" cut. Mathieu is currently scheduled to make $10.75 million between salary and bonuses. He's due a $5 million roster bonus next Wednesday. It's quite possible Mathieu refuses the cut and earns his release. Cutting Mathieu and designating it as a post-June 1 move would free up $11 million in space.

If he's on the roster in a week he's automatically guaranteed almost $20M the next two years. I think he gets cut. He struggled coming back from his injuries, but played well the second half of last year and he played more snaps than any player in the NFL last year. Only 25 yrs old. Any takers?

That would be sweet, but he’s going to get paid and this is the “we do what we do” Steelers we’re talking about now. Besides, we have to find a way to pay the rap star RB the equivalence of the GNP of Rwanda...

I'm not saying he won't cost something, but if cut, he's still making $9m this year, technically. Could he come at a small discount, who knows? But, I guess his family does have to eat and all.

Any interest? Oh wait, looks like he's already been picked-up by that new team out west called..."The Outlaws". Damn, that was fast....

Raiders released CB Sean Smith.

Signed to a four-year, $40 million deal in 2016, Smith never lived up to his contract with the Raiders, getting benched in literally his first game with the team. He was also charged with assault last August. Cutting him saves Oakland $8.5 million against the cap.

When free agency opens Wednesday, former Vikings’ QB Case Keenum intends to sign with the Denver Broncos, sources tell ESPN.

First QB domino has fallen.

QB race is on.

And just as the first QB domino has fallen with Case Keenum to Denver, the first WR donino now has fallen with Allen Robinson intending to go to Chicago.

Denver will still draft a QB but wait until the 2nd round perhaps.

If the NFL would go ahead and make the injury settlement on Shazier's contract a thing, 9 million is pretty much an exact replacement financially, while freeing up a high draft pick.

Wow, with a 2nd tier ILB like Hitchens getting $9M/per, I hate to think how we could afford any starter quality ILBs in FA.
